NT NEWS VISIT – CAN REGATTA
The NT News visited the school on Wednesday 30th July to learn about our fabulous Henbury rafts “The Moana” and “The Turtle Tub” which have been built by various classes as part of Science and Design & Build programs. Students tested the floating ability of the rafts in the school pool (with mixed success!) and answered questions from the NT News reporter. A huge shout out to teacher Carol for coordinating this project, and to our school gardener, Jonas, who assisted with using his traditional Filipino boat building skills. We are also grateful for the many milk bottles sent in by our school community – thank you! Families are welcome to come down to the Can Regatta event at Mindil Beach on 18th August to be part of the fun. Various event activities will run 10am-5pm, including some tests runs on The Moana and The Turtle Tub! Please note parents/carers must attend with their child and have duty of care if attending the event and using the rafts. The official regatta race time to be confirmed by event organisers.
PURPLE 2 HAVE BEEN BUSY EXPLORING
Purple 2 has been making the most of the dry season by exploring all the natural beauty in Darwin during Community Access. We had lunch in a cave at Dripstone Cliffs and explored the rockpools at sunset park. The students completed the 2.5 km Rainforest Walk at East Point Reserve, with only mild-moderate complaining. We also enjoyed a trip to MAGNT and had lunch at the Cool Spot Cafe.
In class, we learnt about the impact of plastic pollution on the ocean. The students completed an excellent artwork demonstrating how marine life are affected by our rubbish. We are looking forward to exploring the solar system next throughout Term 3.

CSC OUTREACH NEWS
CSC Outreach have had a busy start to Term 3.
We have been furiously fundraising for our Year 12 Graduation with two bunnings BBQ’s and one more on the way at Palmerston Bunnings.
We completed reading Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We all did a quiz to determine our Hogwarts Houses which was a lot of fun.
We recently enjoyed visiting the Territory True Café in Palmerston, attended Street Smart High, went to the Supercars for Students on Track and we finished Term 2 off with a trip to the cinema to watch Inside Out 2.
This week we began BoxFit with Scott and Kama. All students actively participated and are looking forward to their weekly fitness sessions. Our transitioning Year 9’s will be joining us each week and we look forward to getting to know them.
SEMESTER 2 SPORTS VOUCHERS

DARWIN REGIONAL INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS COMPETITION
On Wednesday 31st July, 25 of our students represented Henbury and our outreach classrooms when competing at the Darwin Regional Middle and Senior Years Interschool Athletics Competition. Students competed in field events including high jump, long jump, discus, shotput, javelin, and a number of running events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m. There was awesome team spirit, and fantastic effort and competitiveness from students in all events. Thank you to teacher Carol and the team for their mammoth organisation and work on the day to ensure it ran smoothly. We would also like to shout to Athletics NT and Darwin & Top End Region Sport Education staff for going above and beyond to seamlessly ensure our students were included and treated with equity.
RELAY FOR LIFE
On Friday the 19th July, ten Henbury staff participated in the Relay for Life that was held at TIO stadium Marrara. It was a beautiful dry season evening and morning, where temperatures dropped to 15 degrees at 6am. Terri Samuels (Purple 5 teacher) continuously ran a massive 20.6km and Jana Bryse (Enterprise Education) ran 20km over the night and walked 10km. The school ran/walked at total of 87km. The school raised $1,849- thank you to everyone who donated 😊
YEAR 12 GRADUATION – SAVE THE DATE!
All of our Year 12 students and families/carers are invited to celebrate our Henbury graduation evening held on Thursday 28th November at Darwin Hilton. Tickets are $80 per person. Tickets can be purchased through the Henbury front office, payment plans are available. An official invite and more info will come home shortly.
YouthworX
A select group of Henbury student leaders were invited to participate in a YouthworX co-design project aimed at re-writing a leadership program previously implemented in Adelaide and Sydney. The students were tasked with making the program more relevant for people in the Northern Territory.
The group participated in three full-day workshops, providing valuable input on what should and shouldn’t be included in the program, the optimal timing and format, and the target audience. Their insights demonstrated a profound understanding of leadership qualities.
The workshops were facilitated by Sophie from YouthworX, who will also lead the Leadership program. The revised program is scheduled to run from September 2024 until March 2025, and Henbury students aged 16 and above will be invited to participate.
BOXFIT NT
We are pleased to announce the crew from BoxFit NT- Scott and Kama – are working with our young people this semester. Scott and Kama are facilitating transition sessions for our Year 9s moving to the CSC Outreach classroom, and also running an intensive middle years sport and recreation group. Scott and Kama facilitate a huge array of community youth programs, and our students are excited to have the chance to work with them every week, developing not only their physical fitness skills but also meaningful aspects of personal development and wellbeing.
