ACTING PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
How is it already Week 7 next week? I want to congratulate all students for settling back into the routine of school so well and to our staff for creating such a welcoming and supportive environment.

Some exciting news to begin with! The Henbury Precinct Café is open again and the OpShop is ready for donations and sales. Check out our facebook page for more details!
Mini Woolies Grand Opening!
19th March – mark your calendars! The first mini-Woolies in the Territory will be opening at Henbury School! See the flyer below for more details.
School photos
School photo day is scheduled for 21st March. Please return forms to purchase photos before this date.
School Council
A reminder that if you would like to have a say in how our school operates, we encourage any new or existing parents to join our School Council. We would also like to encourage an indigenous voice for our school council as we have 56% indigenous students. You don’t need any experience to join, just a passion to provide the best for your child. Next meeting is scheduled for 13th March at 4.30pm.
Transition / Education Adjustment Plans
T/EAPs commence next week, until Week 10. These meetings are an important opportunity for stakeholders to come together and develop an individualised plan that supports young people to achieve their very best. If you are yet to receive an invitation, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Meeting options are flexible, including Teams, via Phone or in person.
Have a fabulous rest of the term one and all!

MINI-WOOLIES AT HENBURY SCHOOL
YOUTH VOICE PROGRAM
Today our school captain, Michael attended the Youth Voice Peak Group to discuss what Territory students want changed within their schools, learning environments and to offer the education department feedback on what could be improved within their policies. The group had guest speaker, Honourable Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, Minster of Youth.
It was a huge day with a lot of amazing ideas and strong voices from the students. They were asked what they are hoping to achieve from participating in the Youth Voice program and what leadership means to them. This is Michael’s aspiration:
Bold ambition:
Leadership meaning:
Well done Michael.

The 2nd half of the game was the best awesome skills and netball plays on display by all players.
Thanks to Lauren, Amanda T, Nat M, and Maddy B. Teamwork sure does make the dream work
PURPLE 2
Purple 2 has had a wonderful start to 2024. We have gotten stuck into our Nutrition Program, which has included shopping trips to Coles and preparing tasty meals like spaghetti bolognaise, burritos and chicken schnitzels. The class has been working hard on literacy and maths activities, whilst also enjoying some hands-on learning in Enterprise Ed, Skill Sets, Music and Science. In Science, we have had a lot of fun conducting some very colourful experiments to build our understanding of gases, solids and liquids.
When we haven’t been thwarted by the climate, Purple 2 has also had a great time working up a sweat on the bicycles.
GREEN 3 COMMUNITY ACCESS
Our Green 3 students enjoyed an outing to the George Brown Botanical Gardens to investigate the history of the gardens and the changes that have taken place over the years.
Our students remark on their experience at the Gardens.
Elizabeth - I liked the history and the beautiful plants. I didn’t like the swing thingy that David pushed us on, because it made me feel shocked……I gave up!
Leilani - It made me feel peaceful!
Trivett – I liked swinging on the rope and I liked the playground.
Laura – I liked the playground, the plants, and the room we went in with lots of things to learn about.
Marlee – I was eating my apple at the Botanical Gardens. I had fun there.
Molyun - I liked the plants and the playground even though most of it was shut down.
Dekkie – I liked the ropes, and I like listening to the sounds of the animals that live there.

YELLOW 4
Students and staff have been settling in well to Yellow 4 so far this year. The staff in Yellow 4 are Sharon Young (teacher), Wanderson de Siqueira and Hugh Williams. Students have been getting to know each other during class activities and are practicing communication skills.
On Pancake Day, Yellow 4 made and ate delicious pancakes for morning tea. In Week 5 we went on our first Community Access for a drive around Darwin to view all the places we are going to visit over the next few weeks.
NUTRITION PROGRAM
As part of our school activities, we offer parents/carers a nutrition program in which students are provided with recess and lunch throughout the school year. The cost of this program is $30.00 per week. This price factors in recent inflation and public holidays but does not allow for adhoc absenteeism. If your child is going to be away for more than 2 days in the same week and we get a minimum of one weeks’ notice, we can make a manual adjustment to your costs and will arrange for a credit note or refund to be processed. Non-payment will result in suspension of the program. We encourage parents to pay directly at the front office, through our bank account or Centerpay, and not to send cash in with the student.
